Electrical Controls Design Engineer required who possesses a broad range of electrical engineering experience including, but not limited to, high stability ac/dc power converters, pulsed power supplies, high voltage equipment installations, PLC based alarm and control systems, multi-axis motion control and 3 phase LV distribution networks.

You will be responsible for the design and procurement of electrical components for our facility.

This work includes the initial specification development, which involves bringing together information obtained from various different sources and disciplines.

This will be followed by the conceptual and detailed design phases, tender and procurement. You will manage the full process, from preliminary scoping through to installation and commissioning, using a structured project management approach.

You will ensure that key stakeholders are engaged, risks are managed, specifications are achieved and budgets and schedules are controlled.

Once you have gained experience in the specific skills and technology involved in accelerator engineering, you could have the opportunity to become part of our team in Spain to apply these skills in the design and construction.

Duties will include:

Full lifecycle Electrical designs from concept and design through manufacture, operation and decommissioning.

Production of documentation and drawings using AutoCAD.

Presentation of designs for peer review.

Managing tendering, procurement and delivery of approved designs.

Project management (including scheduling, budgets, planning and reporting)


Qualifications

Essential: Degree / HND / HNC in an appropriate Electrical Engineering discipline.

Desirable: IET member or associate member.








Knowledge and Experience

Essential:
Minimum of 5 years experience.
Experience of cabling and general electrical manufacturing and installation techniques.
3 years using AutoCAD.
Fully conversant with electrical circuit diagrams and 2D drawings.
Experience in the design of risk assessments and installation method statements.
A good working knowledge of British and European standards.
Experience in producing electrical design engineering solutions to high standards to meet demanding technical and scientific specifications, including some or all of these fields:
Low voltage (LV) distribution design (230V/400V).
Cable calculation and containment design.
Earthing regimes
EMI/RFI mitigation.
AC/DC Power conversion
Relay and PLC based control systems.
Panel and chassis design and construction.
Network installations -Motion Control systems.
BS 61508 Safety systems
Desirable:
Previous experience within a scientific facility.
Project management of projects up to £250k in value (responsible for time / cost / specification control).
Experience of designing neutron or synchrotron instruments or components.
Experience of designing for radiation environments.
Experience of design and installations under CDM regulations.

An interest in gaining a basic understanding of other accelerator based disciplines, such as accelerator and nuclear physics, mechanical and civil engineering and ancillary plant design.
